Manchester City Charges: Were Any Current Players Signed During the Alleged Breach Period?

News

None of the players in Manchester City’s present squad joined the club during the timeframe when an independent commission determined that financial violations had occurred under Premier League regulations.

The alleged breaches took place from 2009 to 2018. City have rejected all accusations of misconduct and lodged an appeal against every charge.

Club captain Ruben Dias is the longest-serving first-team player in the current squad to have been recruited from another team. The Portuguese central defender arrived from Benfica in 2020.

Erling Haaland has been at the club for the next-longest period among its external recruits, with the Norwegian forward moving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.

Phil Foden is the only current player who represented City during the period covered by the financial violations. However, he was not brought in as a senior recruit because he progressed through the club’s academy.

Foden, 26, made his senior debut against Feyenoord in a Champions League fixture in November 2017.

Versatile midfielder Rico Lewis also developed in City’s youth system, although his first senior appearance did not come until August 2022.

Every other senior member of the current squad arrived between 2023 and 2026.
