The 49ers belonged to the American investment group that assumed control of Rangers last year, although York does not oversee the club’s daily operations.
Neither Rangers nor Leeds intends to issue a statement.
The 49ers said: “The legal proceedings have concluded, so we will not make any additional remarks at this stage.”
York acquired a share in Rangers through 49ers Enterprises, the investment division associated with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, where he is the chief executive and principal owner.
In May 2025, an investment group headed by American businessman Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises finalized its Rangers takeover by purchasing a controlling 51% interest in the Scottish Premiership side.
Cavenagh was appointed chairman of Rangers, while 49ers Enterprises secured a prominent position within the club’s ownership structure.
The deal was completed after several months of talks and placed Rangers under the majority control of American-backed investors.
49ers Enterprises initially invested in Leeds United in 2018, when the team competed in the Championship. It gradually expanded its stake as Leeds reached the Premier League again following a 16-year absence, before taking complete ownership in 2023.
York must comply with league regulations in his role as an NFL owner. The league said it knew about the issue and would assess it under its personal conduct policy.
