After the defeat to Atletico, Martinez called for greater investment in the Manchester United squad and said he wanted “more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox]”.
The 28-year-old subsequently explained that his remarks had been driven by anger and frustration, adding that he remained confident in his team-mates, the manager and everyone working to move the club forward.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, appearing on The Overlap podcast,, external characterised the situation at his former club as chaotic.
In a statement released on Thursday, Martinez acknowledged that Manchester United performs best when everyone stands together and admitted that his comments had not supported that unity.
He said everyone at the club was working as hard as possible toward the same goal of delivering the success Manchester United and its supporters expect.
Martinez added that the matter was now resolved and the team’s full attention had returned to achieving victories together.
Whether Carrick will include Martinez in the squad for the visit to Leeds is still uncertain.
Despite the dispute being settled, considerable uncertainty reportedly remains over the centre-back’s long-term position at Old Trafford.
His existing contract is due to end after the current season, although the club can activate an additional 12-month extension.
Although his recent remarks are no longer being treated as an issue, Manchester United have yet to determine whether to exercise that extension option.
