Maria Boswell Says Ipswich Town Are on Course for the Women’s Super League

News

Ipswich Town Women are destined to earn promotion to the Women’s Super League, according to captain Maria Boswell.

The Tractor Girls placed ninth in WSL2 last season after stepping up to the second division in 2025. As recently as 2021, they were competing in the fourth tier.

The Blues are third after five matches of the 2026-27 season under David Wright, a former Ipswich men’s player who became manager in April.

Boswell, 23, believes there is no limit to what the team can accomplish and regards promotion to the top flight as only a matter of time.

She said the club’s current direction makes promotion feel like the only possible outcome, whether it happens this season or within the next five years.

In her view, Ipswich naturally belong at that level because of the owners’ ambition, continued investment and long-term plans. She also hopes to remain part of the team when that goal is achieved.

Boswell entered the Ipswich academy in 2019 and received the captain’s armband in 2023 at the age of 20.

Ipswich opened the campaign with draws against Nottingham Forest and Southampton before recording three straight league victories over Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United.

Their next fixture is at home to second-placed Sunderland at Colchester Community Stadium on Sunday.

Boswell said the arrival of several talented players convinced the squad by the end of pre-season that they had every reason to pursue promotion.

However, she stressed the importance of keeping that ambition in perspective and not allowing it to distract the players from their immediate responsibilities.

The team’s focus is to approach every training session with purpose and then deliver performances capable of securing three points. Although that approach is currently producing results, Boswell warned that their strong start does not guarantee the run will continue.
