Arsenal are concerned that Bukayo Saka may be sidelined for at least six weeks after suffering a quadriceps injury during their Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old is scheduled to have an MRI scan on Friday afternoon to determine the severity of the issue that forced him to leave Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
The presence of fluid around the injured muscle has complicated the diagnosis, but initial examinations have led the club’s medical staff to believe Saka could be unavailable for six weeks or possibly longer.
Should those early predictions prove accurate, he would be absent for several important Arsenal fixtures and England’s upcoming Uefa Nations League games against Croatia and Spain.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta said further scans and assessments from specialists were still required.
Arteta explained that it was concerning to see a player leave the field in pain, struggling to walk and unable to move freely. He added that the club needed to remain patient before providing a final diagnosis.
He also confirmed that Saka would undergo another MRI because the amount of fluid in the affected area had made it difficult to establish the full extent of the damage. A clearer update is expected afterward.
Saka will sit out Saturday’s Premier League home fixture against Everton, with second-placed Arsenal aiming to reduce the three-point difference separating them from leaders Manchester City.
The Arsenal academy graduate has experienced several fitness problems in recent months. His playing time was carefully controlled toward the end of last season and during England’s World Cup campaign because of an Achilles injury sustained in March.
He was unavailable during the March international window and missed seven Arsenal matches before returning to help the club secure its first Premier League championship in 22 years.
Saka was in the starting lineup for the Champions League final loss to Paris St-Germain but came off after 54 minutes. He also started only three of England’s eight World Cup matches, netting a hat-trick in the 6-4 third-place victory over France.
The attacker previously underwent an operation for a hamstring injury suffered in December 2024, an issue that ruled him out for 101 days of the 2024-25 season.
Despite an interrupted campaign, he featured 49 times as Arsenal claimed the title last season. Along with the Achilles problem, he withdrew shortly before a January match against Leeds after hurting his hip during the warm-up, while another hamstring injury kept him sidelined for roughly four weeks.
