Aberdeen sign winger Lewis Smith from Livingston

“I have long been an admirer of Lewis and attempted to bring him to my former teams, but I didn’t have the financial means to secure his services.”

“Every time we observed him, he made a strong impression, but the most striking aspect was how the statistics confirmed exactly what we saw on the pitch.”

In total, Smith made 81 appearances for Livingston, netting 12 goals—seven of which came in the most recent campaign—and providing 12 assists.

“Certain performance metrics our scouting team monitored ranked him as one of the top wide men in the Premiership during the previous season,” Robinson stated.

“It’s easy to sometimes miss what’s right in front of us. Lewis has demonstrated over a number of years that he can deliver consistent performances in this division, and we are confident he still has significant potential to develop further.”

“Supporters of the Dons can look forward to a dynamic, offensive-minded wide player who is quicker than he appears, puts in a tremendous shift for the side, is proficient with both feet, and poses a real scoring danger.”

“He ended last season as Livingston’s top league marksman even though he primarily operated on the flank, which speaks volumes about the offensive attributes he will add to our team.”

A “thrilled” Smith noted that his first appearance for Hamilton came at Pittodrie, and he feels he “still has much more to offer” at his new club.

Smith, who progressed through the Accies academy, initially signed a two-year deal upon joining West Lothian in 2024, but that was later prolonged until the summer of 2027 following one campaign.

David Martindale, Livingston’s sporting director, stated that this transfer demonstrated their player trading strategy was effective.

“We secured Lewis on a pre-contract agreement while he was at Hamilton in League 1, and that’s an approach we naturally wish to persist with in the future,” he informed the club’s official website.

“We are currently in a strong position and, pending a Governing Body Endorsement, we will reveal Smithy’s successor shortly. He was pinpointed early because we anticipated Lewis might depart.”

Smith’s move to Pittodrie occurred on the same day that Aberdeen transferred forward Marko Lazetic to Noah, the runners-up in the Armenian Premier League, for an undisclosed sum.
