Barcelona are nearing an agreement to sign Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus in a deal valued at £8.6m (10m euros).
Negotiations for the Brazilian are reportedly at an advanced point. Although several details still need to be settled, the move is likely to be finalised before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Napoli had also expressed interest in Jesus, but the 29-year-old is expected to join the reigning Spanish league champions and undergo a medical on Monday.
Jesus moved to Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and has recorded 32 goals and 22 assists across 123 appearances for the London club.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told reporters on Thursday that Jesus was not taking part in first-team training ahead of Monday’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa, which starts at 20:00 BST.
Asked if the forward’s absence indicated an imminent departure, Arteta replied: “Personal situations, whatever they are, I think it’s clear.”
Should the transfer go through, Jesus would become Barcelona’s third recruit from a Premier League side this summer, after Anthony Gordon arrived from Newcastle and Rodri joined from Manchester City.
Barcelona’s attempt to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal, appeared to collapse earlier this week after reports indicated that Atletico were unwilling to enter talks with their domestic rivals.
