Birmingham City have named former Manchester United executive John Murtough as the club’s new director of football.
The 55-year-old succeeds Craig Gardner, who left St Andrew’s in June. Murtough departed Manchester United in April 2024 after spending 11 years at Old Trafford, most recently serving as football director.
Before moving to Manchester in 2013, Murtough held positions at Everton, Fulham and Coventry City, as well as working for the Premier League.
His latest position was with Serie A side Atalanta, where he worked as director of global development.
Murtough is due to start work at the US-owned club on Monday, following Birmingham’s Championship fixture away to Cardiff City this weekend.
Chris Davies’ team are fourth in the Championship standings after securing three consecutive victories since the international break.
