Adam Idah put three first-half misses behind him by heading Championship leaders Swansea to a 2-1 victory at home against Norwich. The Republic of Ireland forward completed the comeback with a glancing header in the 59th minute after Jacob Wright had given the visitors a first-half lead.
Joseph Opoku created an excellent opportunity for Idah in the 22nd minute, winning possession near halfway before advancing towards the Norwich penalty area. However, Idah’s first touch from the promising pass was too heavy, allowing Vladan Kovacevic to make the save.
Norwich remained dangerous on the break, and a fine delivery from the left forced Stephen Welsh to head the ball over his own crossbar from close range, resulting in a corner.
Although the initial corner was cleared, Andre Brooks and Oscar Schwartau combined to dispossess Welsh. Schwartau then played the ball across the box for Wright to open the scoring in the 28th minute. Idah had another two opportunities to equalise before half-time, but Kovacevic denied him on both occasions.
Swansea drew level four minutes into the second half as Yeo scored for the third consecutive match. A slick passing move along the left released Josh Tymon, whose cross evaded Idah at the near post before Yeo finished at the far post.
The decisive goal arrived shortly before the hour mark, when Idah met Melker Widell’s perfectly placed cross with a header into the net.
Norwich created two strong chances late on, but Lawrence Vigouroux stopped Sam Field’s effort before Jovon Makama headed over from five yards.
West Brom defender Nat Phillips made another costly derby error as Birmingham secured a 1-0 victory at The Hawthorns. After his misplaced back pass allowed Fer Lopez to score in the previous 1-0 defeat by Wolves, Phillips conceded a penalty in the 41st minute that August Priske converted.
Phillips awkwardly challenged the forward in the air while attempting to deal with a cross. Priske stepped up and drove the spot-kick high to the left of Max O’Leary, registering his second league goal of the season. The outcome leaves both teams tied on 14 points.
Bristol City goalkeeper Sam Tickle produced two important second-half saves as a 1-1 draw at The Valley extended Charlton’s winless Championship run to six games.
Charlton went ahead in the eighth minute through Karlan Grant’s second goal of the season, but Scott Twine equalised before half-time.
