Coventry City have reached an agreement valued at approximately £17m to sign Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Sky Blues are likely to finalise the transfer before facing Arsenal on Friday in their first match back in the Premier League.
Awoniyi moved from Union Berlin in 2022 for £17.2m, making him Forest’s record purchase at the time.
The 29-year-old registered 23 goals across 103 appearances for Forest, but he fell behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the attacking hierarchy and was omitted from last season’s Europa League squad.
The Nigerian forward made only three starts last season and finished with four goals from 17 appearances in all competitions.
He was put into an induced coma in May 2025 after suffering a ruptured intestine when he struck a post during a match against Leicester.
Coventry are getting ready for their first Premier League campaign in 25 years. They have already brought midfielder Gus Hamer back from Sheffield United and signed goalkeeper Carl Rushworth after his successful loan spell from Brighton.
The club have also recruited winger Loum Tchaouna from Burnley, defender Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt and Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi from Nordsjaelland.
With Haji Wright currently sidelined through injury, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms are the fit centre-forward options available to manager Frank Lampard ahead of the opening fixture.
