Leeds United Transfer Update: Nico Elvedi Set for Medical After £8.5m Deal Agreed

News

Leeds United have reached an agreement worth £8.5m to recruit Swiss defender Nico Elvedi.

The 29-year-old will travel to England for a medical on Monday after Borussia Monchengladbach approved an initial £6.8m fee, potentially rising by another £1.7m through add-ons.

The adaptable Switzerland international is poised to leave the German top-flight side after 11 years and continue his career at Elland Road.

Elvedi will bring considerable experience to the squad, having made 73 appearances for Switzerland and been included in his country’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Speaking about the proposed transfer following a 4-0 pre-season victory against Augsburg, Leeds manager Daniel Farke said: “My experience in football has taught me that no deal is complete until the medical examinations are finished and every document has been signed. Similar situations have changed before.

“For that reason, I prefer not to discuss incoming players until the club has confirmed the move and all formalities are complete. However, we believe there could be progress within the next 48 hours.”

Elvedi’s arrival could clear the way for Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, who is on the fringes of the squad, to join Hamburg on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent.

Leeds will open their Premier League season with an away fixture against Nottingham Forest next Saturday.
