Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez’s proposed switch to Crystal Palace has encountered difficulties following his medical examination, leaving the Premier League side to determine whether the transfer should go ahead.
Palace are believed to have moved ahead of Aston Villa in the race for the Ecuadorian centre-back, reaching an agreement for an initial loan with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
The 22-year-old is currently recovering from a fractured metatarsal. Although Palace knew about the problem during negotiations, the injury is reportedly more serious than the club first expected.
Palace have stepped up their search for defensive reinforcements after Chadi Riad was carried off on a stretcher during Saturday’s match against Everton.
The club secured Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea on Wednesday but remains eager to bring in an additional central defender.
