Daniel Farke and Leeds United in Agreement Over New Contract

News

Leeds signed England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City for a fee that could rise to £45m during the summer. They also recruited defenders Tarik Muharemovic and Nico Elvedi, along with Fulham winger Harry Wilson.

On deadline day, the club further strengthened its squad by bringing in Nice defender Melvin Bard and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Jean-Matteo Bahoya.

Evans said that while the previous year had delivered a productive transfer window but a disappointing final day, this summer had been successful in both respects.

He explained that the club’s main priorities were a left-footed central defender, a right winger and a goalkeeper. After securing their preferred choices for those positions early, Leeds had enough time to pursue additional reinforcements across the squad.

Evans added that the club was pleased with its overall transfer business.

Netherlands international Pascal Struijk joined Brighton on 30 June in a transfer reportedly valued at £20m.

Clubs had until the end of June to comply with profit and sustainability rules and avoid potential charges or points penalties. Those regulations are now set to be succeeded by the squad-cost ratio system.

Evans said he was relieved that selling only one player was enough for the club to satisfy the financial requirements.

He said he had expected Leeds to sell several players in June, but the team’s FA Cup run and limited January activity meant that only one departure was required.

According to Evans, interest in Struijk from other clubs was already evident before the season ended. The player quickly reached a decision about his future, allowing Leeds to complete the transfer before the 30 June deadline.

Leeds had anticipated Struijk’s possible departure throughout the season and had extensively researched replacements at left-sided centre-back. Receiving an early decision helped, although the club had also prepared several alternative plans.
