Everton‘s owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), are considering selling the club less than two years after acquiring it.
The US-based organisation completed its takeover in 2024 through an agreement reportedly valued at more than £400m.
TFG said that, after focusing on financial stability, investment and the launch of Everton’s new stadium last year, it is now appropriate to assess the club’s future direction.
The ownership group confirmed it is reviewing fresh investment opportunities, including a possible sale of a controlling stake in Everton Football Club.
TFG explained that Everton was dealing with serious financial uncertainty and difficulties both on and off the field when the group assumed control. Its initial objective was to provide the funding, stability and assistance required to protect the club’s future, including completing the stadium project long awaited by supporters.
With those foundations now established, the group believes the moment has arrived to evaluate Everton’s next phase.
Led by chairman Dan Friedkin, TFG promised to build a successful and financially sustainable future when it took charge, although its management faced criticism during the summer transfer period.
In September, David Moyes revealed that he had neither met nor spoken with Houston-based Friedkin since returning as Everton manager in January 2025.
Friedkin delegates Everton’s daily operations to his son-in-law, Rishi Majithia, who works alongside chief executive Angus Kinnear.
Supporters responded with anger after reports emerged that Everton had agreed to a £40m offer from Nottingham Forest for highly regarded England Under-19 midfielder Harrison Armstrong.
Although Everton later withdrew from the proposed transfer, fans remained unhappy after Beto was sold to Fiorentina soon afterwards.
That departure left 23-year-old French forward Thierno Barry as the Toffees’ only established striker.
TFG stated that it would consider approaches only from potential buyers it firmly believes can responsibly guide the club into the future.
The group also pledged to maintain its support throughout the process, providing what is required to pursue success on the field while continuing initiatives intended to benefit the communities connected to the club.
