FAW Chief Noel Mooney Casts Doubt on FIFA Reform Claims

News

Infantino is facing mounting criticism over his abandoned Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan.

The proposal would have allowed private investors to acquire interests in the World Cup and other tournaments, prompting significant opposition.

The Welsh governing body was one of the first national associations to withdraw its support for Infantino’s attempt to remain in charge of Fifa.

Infantino is expected to seek a fourth term in the March 2027 election, while potential challengers have until 18 November to put forward another candidate.

Mooney again confirmed that the FAW would not support Infantino’s candidacy.

Mooney said the Fifa president should serve as the game’s moral protector.

He argued that the position should not be held by someone seeking to sell portions of football.

He added that the World Cup has no need for private equity because Fifa already holds billions of dollars in reserves.

Mooney called for those funds to be distributed quickly so associations could invest in building pitches.

He recalled a Miami summit attended by representatives from all 211 federations before the World Cup began.

At the meeting, he pointed out that the tournament in Qatar had generated approximately eight billion in revenue.

He said the World Cup hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico is projected to bring in 16 billion, and argued that a 100% rise in revenue should result in equivalent growth for national associations.
