Fifa has launched disciplinary action against Argentina concerning the team’s conduct after losing the World Cup final to Spain, as well as incidents that occurred during the competition.
Last week, football’s global governing authority assigned a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to review the events that followed the final whistle at New York New Jersey Stadium. Several Argentina players and coaching staff members were involved in confrontations with their Spanish counterparts after the 1-0 defeat in July.
Following the prosecutor’s recommendation, Fifa will examine allegations of assault under article 14 of its disciplinary code involving Argentina players Nahuel Molina, who faces two counts, Leandro Paredes, who faces three, and assistant coach Roberto Ayala, who faces one.
Molina could additionally be disciplined over one alleged instance of unsporting conduct under article 14.
His Argentina colleague Thiago Almada and Spain midfielder Gavi have also been accused of committing the same violation.
According to Fifa’s disciplinary regulations, players and officials found guilty of unsporting conduct may receive a suspension of at least one match, while assault carries a minimum ban of three matches.
