London City Lionesses have landed French striker Kadidiatou Diani on a three-year contract in a deal valued at over £500,000.
The 31-year-old revealed her exit from continental powerhouse Lyon on Monday, despite still having twelve months left on her existing agreement.
London City had been in deep negotiations for a number of weeks and, though other sides from across the continent showed interest, Diani opted to join the Women’s Super League.
Diani featured for Lyon over three campaigns after arriving from Paris St-Germain in 2023, notching 41 strikes across 93 outings.
“This presents a chance for me to explore a different nation, a fresh city, a new squad, and I’m eager to begin this forthcoming journey,” Diani remarked.
“It’s a standalone organisation with tremendous drive. That’s something not often seen in the women’s game and it’s a vision I fully support.
“We have clear aims — to claim as many victories as we can and secure a spot in the Champions League. Lifting silverware for this side would be wonderful as well.
“I believe we’re heading into what will be a truly remarkable season.”
During her time at PSG, Diani lifted two French Cups and a domestic championship but fell short of European glory with Lyon, suffering defeat in a pair of finals.
A knee issue picked up in the last-four stage ruled her out of the most recent final, where Barcelona overcame Lyon 2-0.
Diani will link up once more with London City owner Michele Kang, who also holds ownership of Lyon along with Washington Spirit in the United States.
London City ended their first WSL season in sixth position and have enjoyed a striking recruitment period up to this point.
They have brought in six new faces, among them two-time Ballon d’Or recipient Alexia Putellas, former England shot-stopper Mary Earps and Spanish centre-back Mapi Leon.
