Bradford City have “reluctantly” allowed Championship strugglers Preston North End to hold talks with manager Graham Alexander regarding their vacant head-coach position.
North End dismissed Paul Heckingbottom earlier this month after two years at the helm, following six losses in the club’s first seven league fixtures.
Alexander, 54, represented Preston across two separate spells and recorded 372 league appearances for the club.
He also served as caretaker manager for five matches during the 2011-12 campaign before retiring as a Lilywhites player at the end of that season, aged 40.
“Bradford City AFC can confirm that Preston North End have contacted the club seeking permission to discuss their Championship managerial vacancy with Graham Alexander,” the Bantams announced in an official statement., external
“Although reluctant to do so, Bradford City have authorised Graham to enter talks with Preston North End.”
The Bantams currently lead League One after winning five of their opening seven matches this season.
Alexander arrived at Valley Parade in November 2023 and guided the team to promotion from League Two during his first complete season in charge.
Bradford subsequently placed fourth in League One in 2025-26 but were eliminated by Bolton Wanderers in the play-offs.
The former Scotland international has previously managed Fleetwood, Scunthorpe, Salford, Motherwell and MK Dons. His current Bradford contract runs until the conclusion of next season.
Preston sit second from bottom in the Championship with four points from eight games. They return from the international break by hosting Millwall on Saturday, 10 October.
