Jurrien Timber has returned to London from Arsenal‘s training base in Spain as part of his recovery from the groin problem that kept him out at the end of last season.
The Netherlands defender was sidelined for two months near the end of last season due to an ankle problem, although he recovered in time to feature in the Champions League final defeat by Paris St-Germain.
He subsequently suffered a groin injury that ruled him out of the World Cup.
The right-back is believed to have left the Gunners’ camp in Spain and travelled to London, but sources say the trip was already included in his rehabilitation programme and does not represent a setback.
Timber is due to travel back to Spain and link up with his teammates again.
As the Gunners’ preferred option at right-back, Timber made 30 Premier League appearances during their title-winning campaign last season.
He moved to Arsenal from Ajax in July 2023 in a deal initially worth £34m, but an anterior cruciate ligament tear kept him out for most of his debut season.
Arsenal will meet Manchester City in the Community Shield on 16 August at 15:00 BST, before opening their Premier League title defence against newly promoted Coventry City on 21 August at 20:00 BST.
