Manchester City have secured the signature of 17-year-old winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City in a deal valued at £12.5 million, edging out rival interest from Arsenal.
Arsenal had been keen on acquiring the teenager, but City were more determined in their pursuit of the player, who is already familiar to head coach Enzo Maresca from their time together during Leicester’s successful 2023-24 promotion campaign.
Monga, who had been with Leicester since the age of eight, celebrated his 17th birthday on Friday. Comfortable operating on either wing, the Coventry-born talent has featured for England’s youth sides up to under-19 level.
“As soon as I learned of Manchester City’s interest, I immediately felt this was the perfect move for me,” Monga shared via his new club’s official platform. “For any young player, becoming part of such an incredible club is something you dream about.
“This has been the dominant team in English football over the last decade. They’ve also given opportunities to academy graduates like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly, which proves there is a clear route to the first team. It’s an honour to be here and I’m thrilled to have joined.”
Widely regarded as one of the nation’s brightest prospects, Monga became the second-youngest player to feature in a Premier League match in April 2025 at 15 years and 271 days. The following August, aged 16 years and 34 days, he set a new record as the youngest player to start a game for Leicester. Three days later, he found the net at Preston to become the Championship’s youngest scorer, surpassing a record previously held by Jude Bellingham.
Leicester suffered relegation from the Championship to League One at the conclusion of last season.
Chelsea willing to field bids for Garnacho
Reports indicate Chelsea are prepared to part ways with Alejandro Garnacho and will entertain proposals around the £42.5 million mark for the Argentine winger.
The club has made it clear that Garnacho is not assured of a consistent starting role, and it has been mutually decided that a move elsewhere would be best. Potential suitors from the English top flight, Italy, and Saudi Arabia have already registered their interest.
It was agreed that Garnacho would sit out pre-season training while his transfer is being arranged, though the relationship between the 22-year-old and the club is thought to remain amicable. PA Media
