Martin O’Neill believes he remains the right person to guide Celtic into the future following a period of consideration during the international break.
The 74-year-old agreed to remain at Parkhead for another year after two temporary spells last season ended with success in both the league and Scottish Cup.
After suffering two losses against Rangers last month, as well as a 3-1 home defeat to Ferencvaros in the Europa League, O’Neill suggested that his time in management might be coming to an end.
Celtic nevertheless stood firmly behind their celebrated manager, with chief executive Michael Nicholson publicly expressing his support.
Two weeks later, O’Neill has confirmed that he is motivated and ready to continue in the role.
“I now feel completely ready for the challenge,” O’Neill said during an interview with the club. “We went through a difficult week, but such periods can happen. Defeats against your biggest rivals and in European competition are always possible.
“The situation was certainly not as disastrous as some people made it appear. I wanted a little time to consider everything, although it did not take long for me to reach a decision.
“I want to remain in charge of the club and compete for the league title. My determination is as strong as it has ever been.
“I briefly took some time to reflect, but I am fully focused again, eager to move forward and confident that the team is prepared.”
