Arsenal fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation, especially as his existing contract has only nine months remaining.
Since taking charge in December 2019, Arteta has rebuilt Arsenal, guiding them from a team outside the Champions League to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.
They are widely expected to defend their domestic title and are also considered strong contenders to claim the Champions League for the first time.
Such achievements have strengthened Arteta’s position. Much like Arsene Wenger before him, he has become the club’s most influential footballing figure.
Although many believe a manager or head coach should hold the greatest authority at a football club, that is not often the reality.
Arteta’s influence can be seen throughout Arsenal, particularly within the squad, and no major first-team decision is made without his approval.
When Arsenal pursued Julian Alvarez and Vinicius Jr last month, Arteta played a leading role in attempting to persuade them to join the club.
Given his central role, Arsenal’s owners would find it almost impossible to imagine the club operating without Arteta at the heart of its plans.
A move back to Spain may appeal to Arteta one day, but he understands that Real Madrid or Barcelona, two clubs historically shaped by internal politics, would be unlikely to grant him the same level of control he currently enjoys.
For now, however, Arteta remains fully committed to Arsenal.
The squad has developed impressively under his guidance. With an average age of 26.2, it is among the Premier League’s oldest groups, but its players are reaching their prime and are well placed to create a lasting legacy.
In addition to offering improved financial terms, Arsenal are demonstrating their commitment to Arteta’s sporting vision.
The summer signings of Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa represented major investments despite both players turning 30 next year. Meanwhile, the unsuccessful attempts to recruit Vinicius Jr and Alvarez showed Arteta that the club’s American owners are prepared to spend substantial sums on elite players.
Arteta is believed to have stressed the importance of displaying this level of ambition while negotiations over his contract continued.
After six years at the Emirates, Arteta is already comfortably the longest-serving manager across the Premier League and EFL, and a new contract would move him closer to completing a decade in north London.
Despite his lengthy tenure, Arteta shows no indication of easing his drive or intensity.
