Nottingham Forest are pursuing an agreement to recruit Chelsea forward Liam Delap.
The 23-year-old is available for a reported fee of £50m and has been practising away from the senior squad.
It is not yet known whether negotiations involve a permanent transfer or a temporary switch, although the clubs are understood to share a strong working relationship.
Delap did not feature in the squad for Monday’s Premier League fixture against Fulham, having also surrendered the number nine shirt to fellow attacker Joao Pedro last week.
A possible exit would come slightly more than a year after his £30m move from Ipswich Town to Stamford Bridge. Shoulder and hamstring problems restricted him to only one league goal during the season.
Forest’s summer additions so far include £34m defender Ousmane Diomande from Sporting, as well as free agents Xaver Schlager and goalkeeper Steve Benda.
The club have also allowed England midfielder Elliot Anderson to join Manchester City for a record £116m, while striker Taiwo Awoniyi has moved to Coventry City for £9m.
Signing Delap would give Forest another attacking option alongside Chris Wood and Igor Jesus at the City Ground.
His current club, meanwhile, intend to approve several permanent and temporary departures before the transfer window closes on 1 September, with 39 senior players presently registered.
