PSG Complete £8.5m Signing of Aston Villa Defender Lucas Digne

News

France defender Lucas Digne has finalised his transfer from Aston Villa to reigning European champions Paris St-Germain.

The 33-year-old left-back has agreed to a three-year contract at the Parc des Princes.

Digne initially played for PSG early in his career, spending three years there before joining Villa from Everton in 2022.

He is heading back to Paris after eight seasons in England, with PSG triggering the £8.5m release clause included in his agreement.

Digne said he was delighted and proud to return to Paris St-Germain after enjoying a memorable period with the club more than a decade earlier.

He added that the progress made by the club over the intervening years had left a strong impression on him.

The French defender is expected to challenge Nuno Mendes for the starting position on the left side of PSG’s defence.

He joins a team that has lifted the Champions League trophy in consecutive seasons, securing its latest title by defeating Arsenal on penalties in the 2026 final.

During his previous spell in Paris, Digne featured 30 times before completing a move to Barcelona in 2016.

Last season, the full-back helped Villa claim the Europa League, ending the club’s wait for a major trophy that had stretched back to 1996.

Digne becomes Villa’s third established first-team player to leave this season, after Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea and Youri Tielemans moved to Manchester United.
