Hull City have denounced racist abuse targeting their latest signing, Robinio Vaz, on social media and confirmed they are cooperating with the authorities to find those behind it.
The 19-year-old forward arrived on loan from Roma on transfer deadline day, joining the newly promoted Premier League club. The post announcing Vaz’s transfer attracted numerous offensive comments aimed at the French player.
“Nobody should be subjected to discrimination, and Robinio will receive the club’s complete support,” Hull said. “We are working alongside Humberside police and the relevant authorities to trace the accounts responsible for this appalling behaviour and ensure appropriate action is taken against the individuals involved.”
The Premier League also firmly denounced the abuse and offered assistance to Vaz and Hull. It said it was appalled by the persistent discrimination footballers encounter online and remained committed to cooperating with clubs, public authorities, law enforcement agencies and social media platforms to tackle the problem.
Hull have made an impressive return to the top division, recording victories in their first two fixtures. They will welcome Aston Villa on Saturday.
