Seamus Coleman Trains with Killybegs, but Republic of Ireland Defender Rules Out GAA Return for Now

News

Rumours spread rapidly across social media on Sunday, suggesting that Seamus Coleman had joined a new team.

However, the speculation involved his hometown Gaelic football team, Killybegs, rather than an association football club.

The 37-year-old departed Everton at the end of last season, concluding a remarkable 17-year spell with the Premier League side.

Coleman, captain of the Republic of Ireland, has remained unattached since then despite appearing in international friendlies in June, prompting talk of a surprising return to Gaelic football.

The Donegal Senior Football Championship began on Saturday, and Coleman watched from the sidelines at Pairc Tir Conaill when Killybegs visited Four Masters for their opening fixture on Sunday afternoon.

Although he did not play for his hometown team as the rumours had suggested, Coleman is believed to have trained with Killybegs GAC to maintain his fitness while searching for a new association football club.
