Assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis has confirmed that she is ending her officiating career and will join the Football Association in a new role.
Having worked at more than 150 Premier League games, Massey-Ellis will become a senior manager responsible for helping female match officials develop and progress.
Massey-Ellis joined the Premier League’s group of assistant referees in 2010, becoming only the second woman to reach that level. She later became the first English woman to officiate in a men’s European match and the first woman to serve as an official in a men’s FA Cup final. She also took part in five Women’s FA Cup finals.
Confirming her retirement, Massey-Ellis said: “While my time working on the touchline has come to an end, my involvement in football will continue.
“If my career has challenged attitudes, created opportunities or encouraged even one young person to feel that they have a place in the sport, I will regard it as one of my proudest accomplishments.”
