Simon Weaver: Harrogate Town manager takes co-ownership of National League side

News

Harrogate Town’s long-serving manager Simon Weaver has acquired a share in the National League club, bringing his father’s period as owner to an end.

Weaver was appointed manager in May 2009, while his father Irving assumed ownership two years later.

During their time in charge, Harrogate earned promotion to the Football League for the first time in 2020 and went on to compete in League Two for six seasons.

Weaver and local entrepreneur Jonathan Bleazard have now taken control, with the club describing the agreement as the beginning of a significant new era.

“This is not simply a transfer of ownership within the family. Simon and Jonathan are both making a substantial commitment to the club and, most importantly, they are undertaking it as partners,” Irving Weaver said on the club’s website., external link

“Their respective skills and backgrounds work exceptionally well together.”

The North Yorkshire club dropped into the National League last season but sit second after their opening 13 fixtures.

“My duties and position as manager will remain unchanged. I am still determined to develop into the best manager possible and help the team continue progressing,” Simon Weaver said.

“I understand completely that my performance as manager will continue to be assessed by results, just like that of every other manager in the game.

“Taking on the role of co-owner does not alter that accountability or the expectations I set for myself.”

Harrogate travel to Bury on Saturday for an FA Cup fourth qualifying-round tie.
