Reports emerged today that Osasuna have expressed an interest in Tierney, but the same source indicated that Celtic officials intend to reject any approaches for the 29-year-old.
That stance is understandable given the limited alternatives available in his position and the important role he plays for the reigning league champions.
His former captain Scott Brown told Sportsound that Kieran is unlikely to leave because of his strong affection for the club.
Brown acknowledged that football can be unpredictable but praised Tierney’s passion and commitment, particularly his determination in challenges and willingness to attack balls delivered into the penalty area.
He also highlighted Tierney’s technical ability, saying it was easy to understand why Arsenal signed him. Brown added that other clubs would naturally be interested and that Celtic have benefited from keeping Tierney, McGregor and James Forrest together for so long.
Club captain McGregor also produced an impressive performance in the opening league fixture. Although there had been speculation about a possible departure, those rumours have faded in recent weeks.
Brown said McGregor has returned looking refreshed after stepping away from international football and enjoying a proper break. He described the midfielder as the team’s tactical mind, praising his awareness and leadership.
He encouraged young players to study McGregor, Tierney and Forrest, noting that remaining at a club of this stature for many years requires a deep understanding of every aspect of the game.
