Vivianne Miedema Injury Rules Manchester City Striker Out of Season Opener

News

Manchester City forward Vivianne Miedema is set to miss the opening stage of the Women’s Super League campaign because of a knee injury.

The 30-year-old Netherlands international is not believed to have sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The club also confirmed that this problem is unrelated to the knee injuries she previously encountered.

Miedema recorded 10 goals and five assists in the league last season, helping City secure their first Women’s Super League title since 2016.

She remained mostly fit throughout the previous campaign but required knee surgery after the season concluded.

The new season gets under way on Friday, with London City Lionesses welcoming Manchester United at 19:00 BST. Manchester City begin their campaign at home against newly promoted Birmingham City on Sunday at 14:30 BST.
