Women’s Champions League: Chelsea Draw Real Sociedad in Third Qualifying Round

News

Chelsea have been drawn against Spanish club Real Sociedad in the third qualifying round of the Women’s Champions League.

The Blues will host the opening leg on 26 August before travelling to Spain for the return match on 2 September.

After placing third in the Women’s Super League last season, the eight-time domestic champions must overcome Sociedad to secure a place in the tournament’s league phase.

Sociedad also ended their Liga F season in third position, finishing 21 points behind champions Barcelona.

Chelsea, who lost the 2021 Champions League final to Barcelona, were among the seeded teams in Tuesday’s draw held at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

Elsewhere in the draw, Paris St-Germain will meet Eintracht Frankfurt, Real Madrid will take on Ajax, two-time champions Wolfsburg will play Inter Milan, and Juventus will face Austrian club St Polten.

Manchester City, the reigning WSL champions, and runners-up Arsenal have already secured league-phase places alongside defending European champions Barcelona.
