Women’s Super League: Arsenal Secure Spanish Goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez on a Free Transfer

News

Arsenal have completed the free-transfer signing of Spanish goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez, making her their sixth new arrival of the summer.

The 27-year-old moves to the Women’s Super League club following her departure from Real Madrid at the end of the previous campaign.

Rodriguez will take the number 16 jersey and challenge Daphne van Domselaar and Anneke Borbe for playing time after both goalkeepers dealt with injuries last season.

Rodriguez expressed her pride at joining such a prestigious club, describing Arsenal as one of the world’s leading teams and saying she was eager to begin this fresh challenge.

She added that her ambition is to help the team fight for silverware and create further memorable moments alongside the supporters.

During her six-year spell with Real Madrid, Rodriguez played 215 matches, setting a club appearance record, before being appointed captain last year.

Since her senior Spain debut in 2021, she has collected 34 international appearances. Three of those came during Spain’s victorious 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign, although Barcelona goalkeeper Cata Coll has since replaced her as the preferred starter.

Arsenal have been highly active in the transfer market ahead of the 2026-27 Women’s Super League campaign. Georgia Stanway, Ona Batlle, Selina Cerci, Geraldine Reuteler and Lisa Baum have also joined to strengthen Renee Slegers’ squad.

The team placed second in the WSL last season and advanced to the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League.
