Advancing in Europe offers clear financial benefits, and Hearts could be involved in both incoming and outgoing transfers during the final days of the window.
Hearts have signed 12 players this summer, while an even larger number have departed the club.
With at least six additional European matches on their schedule, former Hearts player Ryan Stevenson expects the club to strengthen its squad.
“Looking at the League Cup, the six European fixtures and the importance of the domestic campaign, I believe they will certainly need another two or three players,” he said.
Fellow former Tynecastle favourite Allan Preston is confident Hearts are well equipped to handle the situation.
“They have potential recruits lined up if reinforcements become necessary,” he said. “The club plans ahead rather than waiting for events to unfold.”
“If action is required, they will make their move before the transfer deadline. The squad will improve and deliver stronger performances.”
Midfield could become a priority for Hearts following Tom Renaud’s injury during the first half.
“That was the most disappointing moment of the night,” Vrancken said.
“The initial signs are concerning, although I hope he is all right. We may need to assess that area because he also performed very well in the previous match.”
