Ebbsfleet United say they have cleared their unpaid tax bill, although their National League suspension has been prolonged.
Earlier this month, the Kent side had their opening three National League South fixtures postponed due to continuing financial difficulties.
In a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, the National League said its compliance and licensing committee had reviewed the case and determined that there had been no substantial improvement.
“The club has received sufficient time and opportunities to show that it meets the competition’s requirements, but the current situation cannot be allowed to persist,” the National League said.
“Possible measures available under the rules include removing the club from the National League.”
However, Ebbsfleet issued their own statement on Wednesday evening, saying they had paid HMRC everything outstanding and provided the league with confirmation of the payment.
“The funds were initially transferred after the ownership change was completed, but they did not reach the club until late on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, this was after Tuesday’s deadline and the league committee’s 10am meeting on Wednesday,” the club explained.
“Before Tuesday’s 5pm deadline, we also prepared and submitted answers to the committee’s outstanding questions. When informing us of its decision today, the league requested further details, which we will supply before next Tuesday’s deadline.”
As a result of the extended suspension, the visit to Farnborough Town on 29 August and the home fixture with Horsham two days afterward will not take place.
Ebbsfleet must provide any additional information to the National League by 17:00 BST on 1 September, after which another assessment will be conducted.
