Inter have opened discussions with Tottenham about a possible transfer for Cristian Romero. The Spurs skipper helped Argentina advance to their second consecutive World Cup final this month, but he may leave the club for a substantial fee this summer following a turbulent five-year period.
The central defender has played 156 times for Tottenham since arriving in 2021 and helped the team win the Europa League last year. However, he also received four separate suspensions during a challenging 2025-26 season.
After recruiting Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52m and adding free agent Marcos Senesi in June, Tottenham have strengthened the defensive choices available to Roberto De Zerbi. The club are now prepared to allow Romero to move on, with his representatives travelling to Milan this weekend for negotiations with Inter.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilo told Sky Italy that the club are actively working to reach an agreement with both Romero and Tottenham. He added that negotiations may require time but confirmed that Inter’s interest is genuine.
