Vinícius Júnior appears to be enjoying the early stages of working with Real Madrid’s new manager, José Mourinho, despite continuing uncertainty over the Brazilian forward’s future at the Bernabéu.
The 26-year-old, a central figure in Madrid’s attack during recent seasons, spoke positively after his second pre-season session with Mourinho, even as reports continue to connect him with a possible transfer to Arsenal.
“Everything has gone really well. I am getting to know the new coach and my new teammates while working extremely hard,” Vinícius told Real Madrid TV. “Mourinho wants me to remain the player I have always been: happy, energetic and able to enjoy my football.”
Despite his upbeat mood, Vinícius faces a complicated situation away from the training ground. He has entered the final year of his Madrid contract, with the two sides reportedly still discussing an extension while Arsenal consider making a move.
Vinícius has registered 128 goals and 100 assists for Madrid, and the club is eager to avoid losing one of its most valuable players without a transfer fee next year.
After a demanding summer representing Brazil at the World Cup, where the team exited in the last 16, his attention has shifted towards getting ready for the upcoming season.
“We need to improve our physical condition so we can reduce injuries throughout the season and have every player available,” said Vinícius, who led Brazil’s scoring chart at the tournament with four goals.
“It was a productive session, and everyone finished feeling exhausted. Now we must recover before training again tomorrow. Pre-season is always demanding, so we need to make sure we are prepared.”
