Ollie Watkins Joins Saudi Club Al-Hilal in £51m Transfer from Aston Villa

News

Ollie Watkins has finalised a £51m transfer from Aston Villa to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.

The 30-year-old forward has signed a three-year contract after becoming Villa’s leading Premier League goalscorer with 91 goals.

During his six seasons with Villa, Watkins was instrumental in the team’s progress under Unai Emery. The club became a consistent contender for a top-six finish and lifted the Europa League, securing its first European title in 44 years.

The England striker withdrew from selection for Villa’s Premier League season opener against Brighton last weekend, and Emery later confirmed that Watkins had apologised for his decision.

“To begin with, I want to make it clear that I never intended or expected my time at Aston Villa to finish in this manner,” Watkins wrote on social media.

“Despite the circumstances, I will always be incredibly thankful for the past six years, which have helped me grow both as a footballer and as an individual.

“We experienced plenty of highs and lows throughout my six seasons at the club, but my commitment never changed, and I always gave everything I had.”
