Everton have reached an agreement to bring Jack Grealish back to the club on loan from Manchester City for the remainder of the season.
The 30-year-old is due to undergo a medical with the Toffees, and the transfer is expected to be finalised before Tuesday’s 23:00 BST deadline.
Grealish spent much of last season at Everton under a similar agreement, registering two goals and six assists across 20 matches before a foot injury ended his campaign in January.
Several clubs, including his former side Aston Villa, had shown interest in the England winger. However, Grealish favoured another spell at Everton, whose chief executive Angus Kinnear said the club had maintained contact with him.
With 26-year-old winger Iliman Ndiaye expected to join City in a £65m transfer, the Toffees are eager to strengthen their attack before the window closes.
Everton also appear close to completing a £40m move for Monaco and United States forward Folarin Balogun.
Their attempt to bring Brazilian striker Richarlison back from Tottenham, however, has reportedly encountered difficulties over personal terms.
Grealish moved from Villa to City for £100m in August 2021 and has featured twice for Enzo Maresca’s team this season.
He appeared from the bench during the Community Shield loss to Arsenal and was also introduced as a substitute in the Premier League opening victory over Bournemouth.
The winger was not involved in Friday’s 4-1 win away at Crystal Palace.
Elsewhere, Everton’s Scotland defender Nathan Patterson may join Italian club Torino before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The two clubs are discussing a possible deal for the 24-year-old, although it remains uncertain whether the move would be temporary or permanent.
Everton return to Premier League action on Sunday when they welcome Manchester United, with kick-off scheduled for 14:00 BST.
