Wrexham Sign Joe Worrall from Burnley on Two-Year Deal

Worrall remained on the bench throughout the Clarets’ first three Championship fixtures of the campaign.

His only outing under new manager Nicky Hayen this season came when Burnley defeated Notts County in the opening round of the EFL Cup.

“We are very pleased to have Joe joining the club,” Parkinson said.

“He is a seasoned central defender and a strong leader who has previously helped teams earn promotion from this division.

“We are excited to have him become part of the squad.”

Worrall began his professional journey at Forest, the club he supported as a boy, and played 226 times before moving to Burnley in the summer of 2024.

He received Forest’s player of the season award for the 2020-21 campaign.

In the next season, he was instrumental in Forest’s promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs and earned a place in the division’s 2021-22 team of the season.

While contracted to Forest, Worrall spent time on loan with Dagenham & Redbridge, Rangers and Besiktas, lifting the Turkish Cup with the latter during the 2023-24 season.

He featured 27 times for Burnley across all competitions.

Worrall moves to the Racecourse Ground following the departure of 10-time England international Conor Coady, whose Wrexham contract ended by mutual agreement.

Coady was not selected in any of Wrexham’s four matchday squads this season.

Elliot Lee, Harry Ashfield and Aaron James are among the players who may depart Wrexham, either temporarily or permanently, before the transfer deadline.

The Red Dragons have already added goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, wing-backs Danny Imray, Issa Kabore and Jacques Ekomie, as well as central midfielder Ben Whiteman, during the summer window.

Wrexham may also bring in another attacking player before the summer transfer window closes.

Parkinson’s team resume their Championship campaign away to Millwall on Wednesday evening at 19:45 BST.
