Scotland often prefers to follow its own path.
On transfer deadline day, its window has frequently remained open an hour longer than those south of the border.
That final period is usually marked by a frantic rush to complete documents and submit registrations at Hampden.
This year, however, the difference is a full two days.
The Scottish FA has the final say on the closing date, although the choice is made after consulting clubs and is announced well in advance.
An SPFL working group gathers opinions from clubs, and the general preference this year was to have additional time once the major leagues had closed their windows.
The main reason is that a significant share of transfer activity in Scotland takes place during the closing stages of the window.
Because of the financial limits involved, several moves may need to happen elsewhere before a deal can proceed and a player becomes available.
Clubs can still sell or release players after their own window closes, giving Scottish teams an opportunity to recruit from oversized squads seeking to reduce their numbers.
The deadline date had already been decided long before this summer’s World Cup began.
