Women’s Super League: PSG Rejects Man City Bids for Jennifer Echegini

News

Manchester City have seen multiple bids turned down by Paris Saint-Germain as they attempt to recruit midfielder Jennifer Echegini.

The French club regard the 25-year-old as an important member of their squad and do not intend to let her leave while she still has one year left on her contract.

The Nigeria international spent much of her youth career in England and joined the Paris side two years ago after playing one season for Juventus.

She netted the decisive goal against Morocco in last year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final, helping Nigeria secure a record 10th championship.

City must complete any new signings by Thursday’s transfer deadline, ahead of the Women’s Super League campaign beginning this weekend.

Vivianne Miedema, who can operate in midfield or attack, is set to miss the opening part of the season because of a knee injury.

Paris Saint-Germain face Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening in the third qualifying round of the Women’s Champions League.

Arsenal have also reached an agreement to recruit France defender Elisa de Almeida from the Paris club.

The transfer is believed to be worth approximately £550,000, with the defender expected to join Arsenal before Thursday’s deadline.

De Almeida is reportedly eligible to feature against Frankfurt before heading to London to finalize the transfer.
