Nicolas Raskin Content at Rangers but Uncertain Over January Transfer or New Deal

News

Nicolas Raskin says he is “very happy” at Rangers, although he does not know what January may bring.

The 25-year-old Belgian midfielder netted his first goal of the campaign in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Dundee and has started each of Rangers’ previous seven matches.

Raskin was associated with a potential departure during the summer and missed several games while speculation about a transfer continued.

Since moving to Rangers in January 2023, he has featured more than 150 times for the club and earned 22 international appearances for Belgium.

Asked how challenging it was to turn his attention back to Rangers following the World Cup and uncertainty over his future, Raskin said the situation itself was manageable.

He explained that being unable to play was the most difficult part, particularly while watching his teammates compete during the transfer window.

Raskin said ambitious footballers naturally want to progress, and he had considered pursuing a fresh challenge after the World Cup.

However, he stressed that he had never tried to force a departure because he remains content at Rangers. He also credited the club with helping him establish himself in Belgium’s national squad.

The midfielder said he is relaxed about his future and praised the manager’s treatment of him since taking charge. With plenty of time remaining before January, his immediate priority is to help Rangers win as many matches as possible, while acknowledging that he cannot predict what will happen next.

Regarding a possible contract extension beyond the end of next season, Raskin said the decision rests with the club rather than with him.
