Man Utd Eye Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann as Potential Replacements for Michael Carrick

News

Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have emerged as leading early candidates to take charge of Manchester United if Michael Carrick is dismissed.

Carrick is facing mounting pressure at Old Trafford after the team’s disappointing start to the campaign, and the club is reportedly already assessing possible replacements.

Howe and Nagelsmann are believed to be high on United’s shortlist, with both coaches reportedly aware that the club is considering them for the position.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is also thought to be highly regarded by United, although his existing contract would make an approach for the Spaniard more difficult.

Howe, Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte, who is said to be interested in the role, are currently available, which could make appointing one of them more straightforward.

Several sources have indicated that former Newcastle manager Howe would be willing to join United should Carrick leave his position.

Nagelsmann became available after stepping down as Germany manager following the World Cup, while Conte is considering a return to management after leaving Napoli in May and has also been linked with Juventus.

If Carrick is removed, the 20-time champions of England will seek their eighth permanent manager or head coach since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 after delivering the club’s latest league title.
