Arsenal are close to finalising a long-running deal for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes.
Reports on 30 July suggested that Guimaraes was likely to join the Premier League champions after negotiations made significant progress.
The two clubs are now on the verge of reaching a complete agreement, while Guimaraes awaits approval to leave Newcastle’s training camp in La Manga, Spain, and complete the remaining steps of his transfer to Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are preparing for the Brazilian midfielder to undergo a medical this week. Although the transfer fee has not been confirmed, sources suggest the total value could rise to £80m.
Guimaraes, who moved to Newcastle from Lyon in 2022, has expressed his desire to join Arsenal after becoming Mikel Arteta’s preferred option for the central midfield position.
Newcastle and Arsenal have spent the week working through the final details, with the completion of the agreement now viewed as a matter of formality.
