Newly promoted Coventry City have broken their transfer record to recruit Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.
The 20-year-old has agreed to a long-term deal after the Sky Blues reportedly paid Danish club Nordsjaelland €27m (£23.1m), with a further €3m (£2.5m) potentially due in bonuses.
Yirenkyi earned his first senior international appearance in May 2025 before featuring at this summer’s World Cup, where he struck a late winner for the Black Stars against Panama in the group stage.
He is Coventry’s fifth addition of the summer following Frank Lampard’s successful campaign to return the club to the highest division after 25 years away.
Yirenkyi said the head coach’s vision and preferred playing style appealed to him, adding that he was excited about the opportunity to develop under his guidance.
He also said that, as a young player, he hoped to learn from both the coaching staff and his new team-mates while giving his full commitment to the side.
A graduate of the Right to Dream academy, he moved to Nordsjaelland in 2024 and was named the Danish Superliga’s best young player last season.
While his main position is in midfield, Yirenkyi can also operate at right-back and has filled that role at both domestic and international level.
