England will go up against France in the third-place play-off on Saturday (22:00 BST) — a victory would give them their strongest men’s World Cup showing since 1966.
“Getting this close and falling short is devastating,” Bullingham said.
“The players and Thomas gave absolutely everything today and the entire group — coaches and backroom team — could not have put in any more effort across the tournament.
“I want to thank all of them — and also send my deepest thanks to our brilliant supporters here in the United States and back in England.”
Though losing in the semi-final stings, England’s overall run is being regarded inside the camp as a relative step forward.
Speaking at his post-match media briefing in Atlanta, Tuchel said: “We carry on with the agreement through to the home European Championship.
“I’m excited for that, even if it’s tough right now to look so far down the line.
“Of course, it’s a last‑four match; plenty of major football nations go out before the semi-finals, so reaching this stage is an achievement.
“Nobody wants to hear that at this moment — me included — because we demand the very best of ourselves. That’s simply what being competitive is all about.”
