Ferran Torres Faces Uncertain Barcelona Future Following Controversial Remarks

News

Barcelona are staying calm about Torres’ position despite increasing uncertainty over what lies ahead for him. The club plans to hold talks with the player when he returns to training as scheduled.

Although he was not a consistent starter under Hansi Flick last season, Torres completed the campaign with 21 goals and three assists across 49 appearances.

He is nevertheless regarded as one of the team’s most reliable and adaptable attacking players. He mainly shared the central striker role with Robert Lewandowski, who has since joined Chicago Fire, while also operating in any position across the front line.

Barcelona would like to extend his contract, but the proposed terms are expected to remain within the club’s current wage framework rather than provide a significant pay rise.

It has been reported that formal discussions could be postponed until September, after the transfer window closes, to avoid affecting Financial Fair Play assessments and Barcelona’s ability to complete other deals this summer.

A contract extension for Torres would reportedly activate, external a payment of nearly £7m to his former club Manchester City under a clause agreed when he moved in the January 2022 transfer window.

No official bids have been submitted for the Spain international. However, Barcelona would assess a suitable proposal for him, just as they would for any other player in the squad.

PSG, led by former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, continue to show interest in Torres and are closely following the situation while the Catalan club prepares its offer.

Torres may believe his recent contribution gives him a strong position ahead of the discussions.

The talks will take place while Barcelona continue searching for a long-term centre-forward, with a possible move for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez still far from certain.

Following Lewandowski’s departure when his contract expired in June, Torres is now Barcelona’s only senior attacker with substantial experience in the central striker role.
