Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea should lose the 2016-17 Premier League title, a season in which his Tottenham side ended the campaign in second place.
Chelsea received a £10.75m fine in March following allegations involving past violations of Premier League regulations.
A proposed six-point penalty was also put aside after an appeal. Antonio Conte’s side finished seven points ahead of Pochettino’s Spurs in the 2016-17 campaign.
After acquiring the club in 2022, owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital voluntarily disclosed 74 violations of Football Association regulations.
The club acknowledged that £47m in undisclosed payments had been made to unregistered agents and other parties in connection with transfers completed from 2011 to 2018.
Pochettino, who was in charge of Spurs between 2014 and 2019, said his former team deserved to be awarded the Premier League trophy.
He argued that because Chelsea accepted a punishment, the championship should pass to the club that finished second.
Pochettino also claimed that the two teams had not entered the season under equal conditions.
The Argentine, now coaching the United States national team, guided Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final during his five-year spell with the club.
Tottenham did not collect a trophy under his management, and their runner-up finish behind Chelsea in 2017 remained his best Premier League result.
Pochettino, who later managed Chelsea during the 2023-24 season, suggested that operating under the same conditions might have allowed Spurs to recruit players capable of strengthening the squad and scoring additional goals.
He insisted that his comments were not a complaint, but said an admitted breach of the rules meant the title should be handed to the second-placed team.
He added that although Chelsea supporters might object to his position, he would make the same argument if Tottenham had committed similar violations.
