Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho said he was “extremely angry” about the situation he believes he was placed in following an incident involving Krystian Bielik and a supporter during Saturday’s win against Cardiff City.
Cardiff defender Bielik became involved in a physical confrontation with a spectator while attempting to collect the ball from the stands late in the second half.
Following the match, Hampshire Police confirmed that an investigation had begun into a reported incident in which a teenage boy was allegedly subjected to common assault.
Mousinho initially apologised to Cardiff City’s players and criticised the conduct of the supporters involved. However, speaking on Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s game against Charlton, he explained that his original response had been based solely on the version of events provided to him.
“I have since watched the footage, and everything I said after the match was based entirely on what I had been told,” Mousinho said.
“From my position, I was unable to see what happened when the confrontation began. The referee later spoke to us and made it clear that he believed he had witnessed the whole incident.
“He told us that when Krystian approached the crowd to retrieve the ball, one supporter struck him, while another threw a ball towards Perry Ng’s head.”
