Argentina’s goalkeeper Emi Martinez has admitted he is pondering whether it might be the right moment to retire from international duty following his team’s 1-0 loss to Spain in the World Cup final.
The 33-year-old has earned 67 appearances for his nation, featuring in every moment of Argentina’s eight matches at the tournament, where he recorded two shutouts and allowed eight goals.
He was crowned world champion in 2022 and also received the golden glove as the competition’s top keeper.

Martinez claimed the Yashin Trophy, presented to the globe’s finest goalkeeper during the Ballon d’Or ceremony, in both 2023 and 2024.
He has been with Aston Villa since 2020 and holds a deal lasting until 2029, though a potential transfer to Serie A club Juventus this summer has been rumored.
